Patience
(1997)
Subject: Grey Wolf Dimensions (inches): 20 x 30 Medium: Gouache Description: He may have a resigned patient attitude but wolves never loose the intensity in the eyes. It was his expression that caught my interest in painting this wolf, that I photographed at a rehabilitation center. I wanted to create a cold, chilly environment but with a feeling of being safe and sheltered. Behavourily, he had to also be far enough out of the shelter to not be viewed as an injured wolf. I made the background up out of my head and used photo reference from Montana for plant life. Adding mud to his feet and darkening wet fur on his back helped create the atmosphere.
