This was the most enjoyable part of the day.......  (2009)
Subject: Lion
Dimensions (inches): 35 x 46
Medium: mixed media
Description: In 2009 Pollyanna was proud to stage an exhibition of paintings inspired by the work of the Born Free Foundation, as part of the official programme of events to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The exhibition included a series of studies inspired by the text of Joy Adamson's original books – including this dramatic piece (above).
The Born Free Foundation is a dynamic international wildlife charity, founded by actress and conservationist Virginia McKenna and her late husband Bill Travers, devoted to compassionate conservation and animal welfare. Pollyanna first worked with Born Free In 1990 when she travelled to the Bhannaghatta reserve in Southern India to paint five tigers rescued from appalling conditions in a roadside circus and flown to this sanctuary by the charity. The story of her remarkable journey to find the tigers is told in the book ‘The Eye of the Tiger', for which Virginia McKenna wrote the foreword. Since 1990 Pollyanna has been pleased to continue to support the work of Born Free, raising over £50,000 through her charitable Foundation to help fund some of their conservation projects in South Africa, Ethiopia, and the Arctic.
