Here's Looking at You
(2008)
Dimensions (inches): 18 x 24
Medium: oil over acrylic on board - original in dark wood frame
Description: On my birthday, my sweetie and I went for a walk. He said 'you choose where', so I chose a section of our Mission Creek trail in Kelowna where there have been bear sightings, hoping to see a bear or 2. Well that's exactly what happened. This black bearcub was looking right at us from the other side of the creek. Then his Mama, who was much bigger, made an appearance a bit further down, whereby, we made a very discreet exit, but watched from a distance for a little while first while she pushed on a tree and then went for a swim. I thought it was the best birthday present, but it is also a reminder that people need to learn to live with wild animals as they come closer into towns as human settlement invades their territory. In BC, I find it heart-wrenching to keep hearing about 'bad' bears or cougars who must be shot as they have become fearless of people. Intelligent behaviour by us people is desperately needed.
