Magpie Mischief
(2009)
Subject: Magpie Shrikes Dimensions (inches): 14 x 12 Medium: Gouache On Illustration Board Description: While traveling in Tanzania I was constantly delighted by the antics of the striking black and white magpie shrikes. The birds were often in small mixed groups, clambering about in trees and shrubs with a mixture of starlings and hornbills and often I was able to get quite close to them. At times they would appear to be relaxing; however their bright eyes would be always on the lookout for a tasty morsel or maybe a bit of mischief. This is how I have attempted to portray them - always alert for any opportunity. This painting was chosen for the Art of Conservation Exhibiton.
