They are a summer visitor, and many are shot on spring and autumn migration as they pass through the Mediterranean, even though they are protected under EU Law. Fifteen percent of the sale price of this painting will go to Operation Turtle Dove, run by the RSPB, which aims to help halt the decline of this charismatic species.
