Beating the Odds - Swift Fox - Swift Fox by Colin Starkevich
Beating the Odds - Swift Fox  (2017)
Subject: Swift Fox
Dimensions (inches): 18 x 24
Medium: oil on canvas
Description: Some of the actions of our Westernized society haven't been all great in the past, especially to wildlife and natural ecosystems. However, today, there are many people and organizations coming together to do their best to acknowledge our mistakes in efforts to prevent and correct some of the bad actions of our not so distant past. The Swift Fox is a species that was extirpated from Alberta in the 20th century, but late in that same century, we saw a success of conservation efforts when these small cat-like foxes were re-introduced into portions of their native species range in the province. Today, Swift fox populations are starting to rebound on the Grasslands and can be seen living in the wild where they once did with the Bison back in the "Buffalo Prairie days". For us to continue to see conservation success stories, it is important for us to support conservation organizations any way we can to see wildlife species and their habitats recover from our mistakes of the past and present. We can learn from these organizations of what we can do on the individual level to better our planet and support them with our time, as volunteers, or with money to fund equipment and other tools needed to learn about wildlife and their ecosystems and to repair their habitat that has been lost.
