Subject: India's large Sambar deer with Egrets Dimensions (inches): 27 x 37 Medium: Transparent Watercolor on Arches® Rough 300lb Description: Just 4 hours south of Jaipur, India, is the wonderful tiger sanctuary– Ranthambhore. This most celebrated tiger sanctuary in the world, is home to a wide assortment of birds and animals in addition to the tigers. Ranthambhore used to be the home of a famous Rajput ruling family whose fortress ruins still lie on the top of one of its hills surrounded by pristine India jungle forests and lakes. In fact, this ancient palace/fortress was the epitome of design for a certain type of defense system for rulers in India. Instead of being surrounded by a moat to help protect it, this fortress was surrounded by dense Indian jungle filled with maneating tigers! The shallow crocodile filled lakes at the based of the hills are favorite hangout for deer, that wade belly-deep into the lake to feed on waterplants. These deer become floating 'salad-bars' for the egrets and herons who follow... constantly looking for insects and frogs stirred up by the deer's movements.
