Patti Jacquemain is the Founder and President of the Board of Directors of the Wildling Art Museum in Los Olivos, California. The mission of the museum is: "to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of America's wilderness through education and the collection, preservation, and exhibition of art." She is also on the Board of the Santa Barbara Beautiful Board of Directors and the Advisory Committee of the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network. She supports many local and national conservation organizations through her foundation and by offering her beautiful three acre garden in Santa Barbara's historic Mission Canyon for events and fundraisers.
Born in Michigan, Jacquemain grew up on a ranch in California, where she developed a passion for the natural world and its cycles of change and renewal. After high school, she attended the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles on a scholarship, then earned a bachelor's degree in painting and a master's degree in printmaking from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Jacquemain is an artist and naturalist. Her passion is wilderness and wildlife of America. Although her home is in Santa Barbara, she and her husband spend a part of every season at their place on the Swan River near Bigfork, Montana. Patti is known for her original woodcut prints and for her complex mosaics using small pieces of Italian glass.
As part of her efforts in drawing attention to the conservation agenda the Wilding Art Museum is now organizing a national Endangered Species Art competition and exhibition for 2008 which will be themed "Flora and Fauna in Peril ".
As a printmaker, Jacquemain has had over 30 one person gallery exhibitions across the US, been a part of many group shows and has had two books published. In 1989, one of her woodcut prints was chosen by UNICEF as an internationally distributed Christmas card; in 2002 was featured on Home and Garden television; and in 2005 and 2006 had many of her woodcut images published by Pomegranate Press and the Sierra Club as greeting cards and calenders. Her latest book, a children's book entitled "Journey of the Great Bear through California's Golden Past" is scheduled for publication in November of this year.
