Raincoast Conservation Society |
Founded in 1990, Raincoast Conservation Society is a non-profit research and public education organization. They work in partnership with scientists, First Nations, local communities and non-governmental organizations to build support for decisions that protect marine and rainforest habitat on B.C.'s central and north coast. In a little more than a decade, a handful of dedicated people at Raincoast have made incredible gains towards protecting the Great Bear Rainforest and attracting the attention of millions of people to its rare beauty and threatened status. Their on-the-ground approach has given us a deep-rooted understanding of this vast coastline. It has also enabled us to bear witness to environmental tragedies that otherwise would have gone undocumented. Raincoast accomplishes its goals by:
Producing public educational materials including books, film documentaries, scientific reports, and other literature. Conducting scientific field research, including studies on coastal wolves, grizzly bear habitat, and wild salmon to develop science-based conservation plans for BC's coast On-the-ground monitoring, photography and videography of threatened river valleys Mobilizing public support throughout North America and Europe using lectures and slide shows, films and photography, and print, radio, and television media Protecting key wilderness and culturally significant areas through land acquisition projects Supporting sustainable economic opportunities for coastal communities. |
