EXPEDITION LEADERS
Arend de Haas – Arend is co-founder and director of the African Conservation Foundation. He is a conservation ecologist with more than 12 years of experience with conservation, environmental education and sustainable community projects. His research and field experience areas include primatology (great apes), large mammal surveys and tracking, radio-telemetry, nocturnal prosimians and marsupials, laser altimetry, application of GIS/RS for natural resource management, remote sensing and land classification, forest biodiversity and vegetation mapping. He has a special interest in conservation strategies, spatial information technologies, community based conservation and environmental education.
Louis Nkembi – Louis is a natural resources specialist with over 10 years of experience in conservation, rural development and community-based project development and management. He is a native of the Lebialem Highlands. His research and field experience areas include social aspects of biodiversity conservation, great apes, anthropology, agricultural development, community-based forestry management, forestry governance and environmental policy, socio-economic surveys and livelihood development, participatory methodologies, facilitation of workshops, protected area management, conservation management, education and capacity building as well as administrative and financial management. |
