Dr. Guy Harvey Receives Top Florida State Honor
11/26/2013 - AFC Signature Member, Dr. Guy Harvey, was honored in October with the Florida House on Capitol Hill's 2013 Distinguished Artist Award. This award is presented annually to an artist who has created work reflecting Florida's culture, environment, history or people and has achieved significant recognition from their peers. Public art by Dr. Harvey featuring Florida's rich marine ecosystems is prominently represented in throughout the state, including in several floor-to-ceiling murals at the Ft. Lauderdale airport.

Dr. Guy Harvey, renowned as one of the world's leading marine wildlife artists and conservationist has had a long relationship with Florida and it's wildlife through art and scientific research. As a marine biologist, diver, photographer and angler, Dr. Guy Harvey joined with Nova Southeastern University in Dania Beach, Fla. to form the Guy Harvey Research Institute with a mission to provide scientific information to understand, conserve and effectively manage the world's marine fishes and their ecosystem. Among his many awards, in 2011, Dr. Harvey received Artists for Conservation's top honor – the Simon Combes Conservation Artist Award.

Dr. Harvey is quoted as saying: 'I am honored to be chosen for this award and to be included among other artists for whom Florida has been an inspiration,' said Harvey. 'Florida has a rich history of abundant and diverse wildlife. However, some of the animals I love to paint are under pressure and need our support.'
